With the movie-making industry having been introduced to Egypt 100 years ago, it was essential that EMPC, the country’s major art edifice, should have a cinema division to deal with the production, distribution and showing of films.Under its Cinema Division, EMPC has its very own movie-making plateaus, its movie-theatres and a highly experienced marketing team. It also has the most up-to-date lighting, sound-recording and editing equipment, not to mention its vast shooting areas. A hi-tech film-printing laboratory exists as well.The plateaus have unfettered access to EMPC’s production services, e.g. carpentry, gypsum- and metal-forming workshops as well as to EMPC’s specialists, who are the key to the success of any production. These can help starting with the choosing of the script down to the showing and distribution of films, locally, regionally and internationally.The Cinema Division comprises the EMPC-located plateaus together with the Nahas and al-Ahram plateaus (located outside EMPC). |

EMPC’S FILM-PRINTING FACILITIES |

EMPC has imported the most advanced film printing, colour correction, colour and black-and-white film copying equipment. All EMPC cameras and editing facilities are digitised, which allows for saving up the hard currency producers would spend if they printed their films abroad. Film-printing staff have all been well-trained by a French company, well-advanced in the field.

The laboratory includes:
A positive control unit.

Exposure and Gamma-measurement rooms.

Spare-parts and chemicals storing areas.

A film-printing dark room.

A 35- and 16-millimetre colour and black-and-white printing dark room plus 35- and 16-millimetre optical sound.

A chiller.

A digital Dolby viewing room for showing 35- as well as 16-millimetre films.

Negative film library.
The laboratory offers other facilities in the area of film-cleaning, colour correction, printing, raw-film preservation, showing and maintaining films.

THE SOUND UNIT |

It has the most advanced digital film-editing technologies and it stands Dolby’s only certified centre in the entire Middle East region. EMPC is also currently in the process of introducing DTS. |

All EMPC cameras are ARRIFLEX 535 Bs, working at a 3:60-shot speed. |

MOVIE-THEATRES |

EMPC is operating 11 movie theatres nation-wide, not to mention the Maadi 7-theatre-compound in Cairo. Work is also underway to make 7 other such places operational soon in both Cairo and Alexandria. By then, the number of EMPC-operated movie-theatres will rise to 25. |
